About me.............

Picture
I am occupational therapist with 39 years of experience. I am currently the Director of Rehabilitation Services at
MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston Texas. I lead a staff of 160 and guide all occupational therapy and physical therapy services as well as the Safe Patient Handling & Mobility Program.

I have a passion for volunteer service and my service has included:
  • Board Director, American Occupational Therapy Political Action Committee, Region IV
  • National Quality Forum Cancer 2015-2019 Standing Committee Member
  • American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine Cancer Rehabilitation Networking Group Secretary
  • American Occupational Therapy Association Secretary (AOTA) 2013-2016
  • AOTA Speaker of Representative Assembly 2007-2010
  • AOTA Special Interest Sections Chairperson 2003-2007
  • AOTA Administration & Management Special Interest Section 2000-2003
  • AOTA member (proudly) since 1984
  • Texas Occupational Therapy Association (TOTA) member since 2011



Summary of Qualifications and Experience

  • Thirty-nine years of experience as an occupational therapy clinician, manager, administrator, educator, researcher, and consultant.
  • Director of a 160 FTE department of cancer rehabilitation including financial leadership, strategic planning, performance improvement and multi-site coordination.
  • Program Director for a national leader in occupational therapy education including program and curriculum design and evaluation, faculty recruitment and development, admissions planning and accreditation oversight.
  • Significant history of scholarly achievement including:
    • Co-investigator on over $1 Million dollars of federally funded research
    • Robust publication history with 23 peer reviewed journal articles including multiple international journals, 18 book chapters, numerous articles in professional and lay newsletters and two widely adopted text books.
    • Significant and sustained contributions through national and international invited and peer-reviewed conference presentations.
    • National and international reputation as an expert in HIV/AIDS and employment.
  • Skilled in project management, fiscal management, continuous quality improvement, operations improvement, and human resource management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, group process and facilitation skills, problem resolution and conflict management skills.
  • Developed and implemented mission statements, vision statements and strategic plans in hospital, educational and community-based organization environments.
  • Five years of experience in peer review of research and business innovation proposals as part of a National Institutes of Health Peer Review Panel.
  • Two terms as Board Director, Region IV, American Occupational Therapy Political Action Committee (AOTPAC, 2019-2024)
  • Volunteer leadership in the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) at the national level including:
    • Secretary, Board of Directors
    • Speaker of Representative Assembly (AOTA Policy Making Body)
    • Member Centennial Vision Commission
    • Special Interest Sections Council Chairperson
    • Administration and Management Special Interest Section Chairperson
    • Member of the Roster of Accreditation Evaluators
